Up until a month ago, I didn’t have to worry about maternity clothes. All I did was wear my jeans without buttoning them up all the way (yeah… classy… I know), or wear my looser-fitting shirts. That is, until one morning when I woke up and realized that my closet selection was getting more limited.
So I headed to Wal-Mart, Target, and some other department stores to stock up on some cute mommy-to-be gear. Boy was I in for a rude awakening! How come no one told me the maternity section was now disguised as the plus-sized section? There were about two racks of “maternity” clothes, and then the rest were just sizes 14 and up. (Except for Wal-Mart that didn’t even have a maternity section!)
No tea, no shade to the plus-size ladies (I’ve always wanted to say that phrase), but why can’t I just get cute clothes that have a little more room in the tummy area? My choices were: a muumuu, a baggy t-shirt, and some saggy-butt pants. So, I decided to get a BeBand to hold up the pants that are willing to go the extra mile with me and called it a day.
By the way, I do know about the maternity specialty stores out there, but I refuse to pay $30 for a top that I’ll only wear for a couple months. (Or at least I better be only wearing it for a couple months… ha!) Yes, I’m that cheap.
Right now, my wardrobe consists of the stretchy clothes I already owned and some new tops I bought in a larger size. Department stores, you guys have got to do better, homie!
