Everywhere you turn, someone is talking about it—coronavirus. More specifically, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which was first detected in China and started spreading throughout the nation.
I don’t need to go into depth about it. Everyone, from medical experts to Google enthusiasts, knows what it is by now. And if you don’t, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) can help you out.
What a difference a month makes, right?
We went from travel bans to a complete nation shutdown real quick.
It seems like everything started to unravel once the NBA suspended its season due to the coronavirus.
“The NBA is canceled indefinitely? Well, we play sports too! We have to shut down.”
And down went all games and practices for other professional sports.
“We can’t say we’re keeping these grown people safe and then put the college students in harm’s way!
So, collegiate sports suspended their activities as well.
“Did you hear? Pro sports and college sports are done-zo. What about high school? Would someone please think of the children???”
And that they did. High school, middle school and basically all youth leagues put a halt to their season.
The domino effect just kept on going.
Businesses mandated employees to work remotely, school districts started shutting down and government entities were on an “essential staff only” schedule.
Naturally, citizens started to panic, so they rushed to the stores to stock up their doomsday shelters. I’m sure there’s toilet paper on the black market right now going for $50 for 5 rolls. And good luck getting to the milk, bread and eggs in the late evening. The morning vultures snatched them all.
Then, gatherings were restricted according to number of participants. Over 500 people? No can do. 100? Nope. And now, I think I heard that the recommendation is no more than 10 people gathered. What will the Osmonds do?
At the moment, facilities like restaurants and gyms are closed indefinitely. There is no dine-in eating hardly anywhere, and stores have a limit of customers they will serve at a time.
Well, that escalated quickly.
We’re in unprecedented times. There’s an uneasily feeling about a lot of things; and frankly, there are way more questions than answers.
But as unsettling as turning on the news may feel, I know that God is in control.
“Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?”
– Luke 12:25-26
No matter what is going around you, find peace—His peace—inside of you.
