Next week, my 12-week maternity leave will come to a close. It’s been great, and I know I’ve been blessed to be able to take this time off. I’ll be going back to work with no anxiety, fully rested, ready to pick up where I left off.
That reminds me of the last time I returned to work from maternity leave.
I took 12 weeks off when I had my first born three years ago. I was ready to come back to work…until one of the only coworkers that I trusted informed me that another coworker had a campaign going on during my absence to take over my job.
“Hold on…what?”
“Yeah…she even gave a presentation about what her new job would entail, and it was obvious that it was basically your position. And she said you could work under her.”
“So then why was she one of the first ones smiling in my face saying that she missed me and wanted to see baby pics?”
Boy… I tell ya. There are some real snakes in the grass out there.
I could have gotten mad. (I’m not going to lie. I actually was quite upset right when I heard the news.) But then I just started laughing to myself. You know why?
This person had a whole three months to try to get rid of me…”dethrone” me if you will; and the plan didn’t succeed at all. I came back and resumed my job duties as normal . I assume that would be quite humbling to that person.
I never even brought up my knowledge of this to anybody (a handful of people knew about the ordeal, but only one was real enough to tell me) because sometimes it’s best to keep information to yourself and let the truth prevail . Note to anyone reading this: You can’t get to and STAY at the top by playing dirty. God don’t like ugly.
“No weapon that is formed against you will prosper; and every tongue that accuses you in judgment you will condemn.” -Isaiah 54:17a
As you know, I have since left that job for a great opportunity. And as I said, I’m coming back to this job with a fresh mind, genuine welcome backs, and no plots to take my position. Ha!
I have no hard feelings toward anyone, though.
I share this to encourage and remind you that it doesn’t matter what people say about you or try to do to you. God has the final say in the end; and if He wants it to happen, it will happen. Point blank period.
