Grandparents… Gotta Love ‘Em!

Grandchildren are BlessingsSome grandparents love to spoil their grandchildren and then give them back. Others don’t really want to relive their parenting days, so they settle for giving a hug and kiss before going back to their kid-free lifestyle. And then you have my parents—the kind who apparently got a memo that grandchildren are their children.

My baby is due in early December, although I feel like he’s getting anxious in there and may come a tad sooner. After I give birth and get released from the hospital, I’m going straight to my mom and dad’s house. Yes, you read correctly, I’m moving back with the parentals temporarily right after having the baby.

Why, you ask? Because I figure I would need my rest, and my mom is THE BEST at caregiving (which will include me AND the newborn). Call it pathetic if you’d like; I call it having an awesome support system.

The funny part is, it’s not even a burden to my parents at all. My dad welcomed the idea without hesitation, and my mom was excited that she was going to get to have her grandson for such an extended period of time.

Now every time I call, the questions are, “How’s my baby? (referring to me)… and my other baby? (referring to my son)” Simply writing it does it no justice because you can’t hear the sweet Nigerian sing-song voice accompanied with it.

My mom also said she’s been thinking of “a menu” of all the things she’ll cook for me while I’m on bed rest, and she’s happy that I’m getting an extra crib that will permanently stay at their house.

As I always tell people, the way my parents adore their grandchildren, you’d think they were able to cash those little ones in for gold of something. 😉 Or maybe they just keep this verse in mind:

Grandchildren are the crowning glory of the aged; parents are the pride of their children. – Proverbs 17:6

All I know is I wouldn’t trade them in for the world. They were and are great parents to me, they’ll be wonderful “second” parents to my son, and I thank God for them.

This is so true! My mom told me in all honesty that when my sister and I get married and have children, she will live the dream of having her own “school” for them so that when they do go to formal school they will already know how to read and write. LOL, I just love my mom for that.
